The pulling abilities are probably the most annoying abilities when you are repeatedly targeted. The easiest way to lessen their annoyance/stupidity might be to either reduce their reuse timers or give players a long immunity to them, and presumably to most other types of CC at the same time.

Swordmaster's actually get that a lot. With a mix of vaul and hoeth spec you can get 3 absorbtion triggering abilities (1 skill, 1 enchant, and one tactic), 2 abilities that increase armor (one of which increases block 5%), a +25% parry attack and a tactic that adds more parry and block. It also could have been your unlucky day

Yea, but think about WoW prior to the first expantion. You had 2 types of instances, Party and Raid. And while pugs were common for the party, you almost never pug'd a raid. So its not that you couldnt do it, its that odds of doing it successfully were slim to none.

MMO's *can* be pretty open-ended, and of course because there's no "That's it, you're done, congrats! Now go buy the sequel" screen, technically there's no "end."

MMO-design makes a big difference though, and games are often compared on "sandbox" values in order to compare their true open-endedness. SWG for instance was quite the sandbox game to begin with, but has become more and more end-game oriented over the years. WoW was an end-game game from the beginning. Second Life is 100% sandbox, assuming you can even call it a "game" anymore. (Then again if people log in to have fun and consider themselves to be "playing" then it's probably a game.)

Now in an end-game game design, which seems to be creeping into WAR (for better or ill), there's still a range of options depending on how accessible you make what you termed "guild content."

Looking forward to your impressions of how WAR and WoW compare in that respect, if you manage to get on that run! :)

Oooo ooo am I the first comment?

First!

Welcome to the blogosphere. You've been RSSd (and no, that's not a strange disease. I don't think).

I had the Soylent Greenskins linked on my site for a few weeks JUST because the name is probably the funniest guild name I've seen in many years. How can you go wrong in a guild like that?!
