The beginning or the end? January 9, 2009

Some people say that MMO’s are the game that never end.  That you can’t technically “win” the game because there will always be more added and there is always something to do.  That, however, isn’t strictly the case.  In essence, there are 2 parts to a MMO.

The first part is what I call the common area.  This is areas and things to do that you can do without having any special requirements.  In Warhammer Online this least up to hitting level 40, and then any RvR that you participate in.  Eventually you reach a point where the grind no longer gains you any benifit outside of influence rewards.  For me, I am just grinding out RvR levels (about 60% to lvl 37), and trying to hit pip’s for some of the gear.

The end point of the common area is when you reach all 5 pieces of Annihilator gear, which I did last week.  As a gear, its not bad, but I don’t understand the 5th set piece bonus.  Out of all bonuses I would want, something that is limited to 1 of the 3 career paths is not it.  Up the AP regen, get some armor bonus, bring back the Wound bonus from the Devastator pieces.

The 2nd part is what I call the Guild area.  These areas you can’t do squat in unless you are in a guild that doesn’t suck and/or is fairly organized.  This is what turned me off of World of Warcraft.  Even though I came into the game somewhat earily (I started the game when Black Wing Lair was brand new), unless you are in a guild that wants to do the high end guild areas, you’re not going in there.  My guild in WAR right now is getting ready to make its first run into Bloodwrought Enclave.  As a gamer, I am excited to try something that hasn’t been played out yet.

If I can make the run, I will have some field report on how it went.

Just starting up the blog.  So I thought I would start with a funny modivation poster I found on the Ten Ton Hammer forums.

I named the blog Grumblings because thats what Orcs do.  I don’t want the blog to be a whine fest, so anyone that reads will have to keep me in line on that part.  Instead I will try to bring you a view from the front lines as an underpowered Main Tank constantly getting crushed by OP classes.  I will also do my best to blog at least once a week, maybe more if something significant happens with my character or the guild.

Speaking of which, my guild, Soylent Greenskins, is close to level 20 guild rang.  Thats where the fun begins.  You get the final piece of unlock for the visual appearence, so when keeps are captured everyone knows its you.

Anyway, links.  I will post them here for now until I figure out how to get them set on the side.
